Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has disbursed ₦338 million to 6,680 women across the state, as part of his administration’s ongoing efforts to promote economic empowerment and support small-scale businesses.
The initiative, which provides ₦50,000 to each beneficiary, is a continuation of the governor’s monthly women empowerment programme introduced since he assumed office in 2023.
Speaking during the distribution ceremony at the Government House in Kano, governor Yusuf said the programme reflects his administration’s commitment to inclusive development, poverty reduction, and improving the livelihoods of women.
He explained that the number of beneficiaries was increased from the initial 5,200 to 6,680 to accommodate more women, including vulnerable groups and new members of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Describing the initiative as a strategic investment in human capital development, the governor stressed that empowering women is critical to strengthening families and communities.
“We are giving you the money directly so that nobody would be allowed to deduct it or cheat you. Anyone found doing so should be reported to us or the nearest police station,” he said.
Yusuf noted that the programme aligns with the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, which focuses on improving citizens’ welfare and ensuring sustainable socio-economic growth.
He added that his administration has prioritised social protection and economic empowerment, claiming that over 80 per cent of its development blueprint has already been implemented.
The governor further disclosed that more than ₦800 million has been disbursed under the state’s youth empowerment programme, benefiting over 5,300 young people with startup capital.
Other interventions highlighted include mass wedding programmes for widows, spinsters, and less privileged individuals, as well as the distribution of tricycles to youths to enhance self-reliance.
Yusuf described women as the backbone of society and key drivers of local economies, urging beneficiaries to use the funds judiciously to grow their businesses, support their families, and contribute to the state’s economic development.
He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to people-oriented policies aimed at promoting dignity, expanding opportunities, and ensuring that no segment of society is left behind.
