Kano Governor donates N100m to singa market fire victims

Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has approved the donation of N100 million to traders affected by the recent fire outbreak at Singa Market, which destroyed shops and goods worth millions of naira.
The donation was announced in a statement issued by the governor’s spokesperson, Sunusi DawakinTofa.
The fire incident, which occurred in the early hours of Monday, reportedly gutted three large stores at the popular market, leading to heavy losses for shop owners and traders.
During a visit to the scene, Governor Yusuf expressed deep sympathy with the affected traders and assured them of government support to help them recover from the losses.
“Governor Yusuf announced a donation of N100 million as relief assistance to the victims of the fire disaster,” the statement said.
Those who received the governor during the visit included the Chairman of Singa Market, Barrister Junaidu Muhammad Zakari, a market elder, Alhaji Sabi’u Bako, and the owner of the affected plaza, Alhaji Munzali Mazaf.
In addition to the financial support, the governor directed the immediate expansion and rehabilitation of roads within the Singa Market area to improve movement and boost commercial activities.
According to the statement, the state government has approved a N3 billion road expansion and rehabilitation project covering Bello Road, Ado Bayero Road, Kandoki, Yolawa and Kwangiri roads.
The project is aimed at reducing flood risks and traffic congestion around major market areas in Kano.
Governor Yusuf also pledged to solarise the market as part of broader efforts to modernise trading hubs across the state in line with his administration’s urban renewal and economic growth agenda.
He ordered contractors handling the road projects to mobilise to their sites and begin work within 10 days.
Market leaders and elders expressed appreciation for the governor’s visit and intervention, describing the support package as timely and compassionate.
They also commended the state government’s commitment to improving infrastructure and supporting traders.
