However, the Minster who hailed the efforts of the state government for it’s effort in the fight against polio in particular, also said more needs to be done to completely eradicate it and face other issues in the health sector.

Prof. Ali Pate who was in Kano on Wednesday to meet with the state’s health officials along with other partners including the Gates Foundation and the Dangote Foundation to form a synergy in the fight against the diseases.

He added ” We are here today along side the Gates Foundation and Dangote Foundation to discuss issues of finishing the work of polio eradication”

He therefore empharsised that
“Some of the things we are doing include reducing maternal mortality because many local governments here in Kano have high levels of mothers dying due to pregnancy related issues.

“We are investigating as a federal government and the Kano state government is also improving it’s primary healthcare centers” the minister stated.

The federal government is supplementing with frontline health workers and the Kano state government is doing the same, he said

“The federal government will also provide, through the medical relief program, commodities that can ease the pains of Nigerians when they come to access the health services” the minister added.

While speaking on behalf of the Kano state Governor Abba Yusuf, the Secretary to the State Government (SSG),  he  reassured the minister of the state government’s commitment to partnering with the federal government in enhancing the health sector.

According to him,” The  Kano state government promised to allocate additional funding towards polio eradication while making its commitment, adding that it will ensure routine vaccination and will upgrade the primary healthcare centers across the state.

He said the state government highly appreciated the visit of the Minister and the donor partners.

Gov Yusuf stated that ” Over the past decade the partnership between Gates and Dangote foundation has been in existence which has played a vital role in enhancing the health sector.

The governor noted that despite the successes recorded ,much needed to be put in place in achieving total eradication of polio virus.

He added that with the continous
