Municipal council targets over 90,000 children in new polio, routine immunization campaign

Kola Oyelere, Kano

The Municipal Local Government has launched a fresh polio and routine immunization campaign targeting no fewer than 90,664 children under the age of five across the council area.

The campaign was flagged off at Sharada Ward, where the Primary Health Care Coordinator, Lawan Jafar, emphasized the importance of collaboration among community members, traditional rulers, religious leaders, and other stakeholders to ensure full vaccine coverage.

Jafar appealed to vaccination teams to work closely with village and ward heads to ensure that every eligible child receives protection against polio and other childhood killer diseases.

Speaking at the event, the Chairman of the Local Government Council, Salim Hashim Idris Gwangwazo, represented by the Supervisory Councilor for Health, Mustapha Usman Darma, urged stakeholders to intensify community sensitization on the importance of immunization for both children and pregnant women.

He further encouraged husbands to support their families by ensuring regular attendance at routine vaccination clinics.

A representative of the World Health Organization (WHO), Safiyya Usman Abdu, reaffirmed the commitment of donor partners to continue supporting the government in strengthening healthcare delivery, especially for women and children.

Also speaking, the Sharada District Head, Dallatun Kano, Bashir Mahe, represented by Isah Bashir, pledged sustained support from traditional and religious leaders to help the council meet its immunization targets.

The Area Immunization Manager, Rabi’u Muktar, and the Health Educator, Aminu Baba, noted that vaccinators and supervisors had received adequate training to ensure the success of the ongoing campaign.
