The Centre for Information Technology and Development (CITAD) has been honoured with an award in recognition of its contributions to youth and women empowerment in Nigeria.

The award was presented during the Northeast Youth Idea Summit held on June 27, 2026, which brought together young innovators, development practitioners, policymakers and other stakeholders from across the region.

According to the organisers, the recognition was in appreciation of CITAD’s sustained support for youth- and women-focused initiatives in the Northeast.

Receiving the award on behalf of CITAD’s Executive Director, Y.Z. Ya’u, the organisation’s Campaign and Communications Officer, Ali Sabo, expressed appreciation to the organisers for the honour.

In a statement, Ya’u described the award as a reflection of the collective efforts of young people, women, development partners and communities that have participated in and supported CITAD’s programmes over the years.

He stressed that empowering young people remains essential to sustainable development, noting that investing in youth and women contributes to building stronger and more inclusive communities.

“CITAD believes that when young people and women have access to skills, opportunities and platforms, they can contribute to the development of their communities,” he said.

Ya’u noted that the organisation has implemented programmes covering digital literacy, entrepreneurship, leadership development, digital rights and civic engagement.

He added that CITAD has also promoted initiatives aimed at increasing women’s participation in technology, education, governance and economic activities.

He reaffirmed the organisation’s commitment to expanding opportunities for young people and women, particularly in underserved communities.

“We see this award as both a recognition of previous efforts and a reminder of the work that remains to be done. CITAD will continue to work with partners and communities to support young people and women and expand access to opportunities that can improve their lives and livelihoods,” Ya’u said.
