The Hadejia-Jama’are River Basin Development Authority (HJRBDA) says it has reclaimed about 600,000 hectares of its farmland from illegal occupants across Kano State.

The Managing Director of the Authority, Engr. Rabiu Sulaiman Bichi, disclosed this during a ceremony for the distribution of agricultural inputs and equipment to various categories of beneficiaries in the state.

Bichi said the reclaimed farmlands would be developed for irrigation farming as part of efforts to increase food production and contribute to Nigeria’s food security.

He said the Authority was committed to supporting farmers and expanding opportunities for irrigation agriculture, particularly among young people.

The managing director also commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for what he described as massive investments in infrastructure and development projects in Kano State.

According to him, the Federal Government’s interventions include the construction of the Northern Bypass Road, railway projects and the ongoing completion of the road linking Kano with the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.

On the empowerment programme, Bichi said about 600 young farmers had benefited from irrigation machines, while other beneficiaries received insect-spraying machines and motorcycles to support their agricultural activities.

He explained that the initiative was designed to empower youths, improve agricultural productivity and create opportunities for people to engage in farming and related businesses.

Bichi urged residents of Kano State to support and vote for President Tinubu and Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf for second terms during the forthcoming general elections.

Some beneficiaries commended Bichi for the empowerment initiative, describing it as a timely intervention that would strengthen their agricultural activities and improve their livelihoods.
