The Kano State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) on Friday commenced its 2025 Press Week with a special prayer session held at the Union’s Secretariat.

The prayer, led by respected Islamic scholar Malam Gwani Nasir, drew the participation of the Council Chairman, Comrade Suleiman Dederi; Vice Chairman, Mustapha Gambo; and a large number of union members.

In his address, Comrade Dederi said the session was both an expression of gratitude to Almighty Allah and a moment of reflection on the resilience, dedication, and professional sacrifices made by journalists in Kano and across Nigeria.

He urged media practitioners to stay committed to ethical journalism, uphold accuracy and responsibility in their reporting, and continue to seek divine guidance for the progress of the union and the broader media industry.

Unveiling the schedule for the 2025 Press Week, the Chairman announced a series of engagements, including a courtesy visit to the psychiatric hospital and a novelty football match between journalists and members of the Kano State House of Assembly.

Other activities include a capacity-building workshop, the commissioning of the Kano Online office, and an award ceremony to honour outstanding journalists for their contributions to the profession.

Comrade Dederi encouraged members of the public and all journalists in the state to take part in the weeklong events, noting that the Press Week underscores the Council’s commitment to professionalism, excellence, and institutional development.
