The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has denied issuing a statement circulating on social media concerning the omission of some governorship candidates from its final list of candidates in six states.

The affected states are Kano, Zamfara, Gombe, Delta, Plateau and Yobe.
In a statement, the commission described the circulating document as fake, stressing that it did not originate from INEC.

The commission urged members of the public to disregard the statement and refrain from sharing it, advising them to obtain election-related information only from its verified communication channels.

INEC listed its official website as www.inecnigeria.org, its Facebook page as INEC Nigeria, and its X and Instagram handles as @inecnigeria. It also directed the public to its news website, www.inecnews.com, for authentic updates.

The commission emphasised that any claim suggesting it had issued a special statement on governorship candidates whose names were omitted from the lists in the six states was false.

It urged Nigerians to exercise caution and verify the authenticity of election-related information before accepting or sharing it, warning against the spread of misinformation capable of causing confusion.
