The Kano State House of Assembly has screened and confirmed six commissioner nominees submitted by the state executive for appointment into the State Executive Council.

The nominees were screened and confirmed during plenary presided over by the Speaker, Jibril Ismail Falgore.
The exercise followed a motion moved by the Majority Leader, Lawan Hussaini, and seconded by the Minority Leader, Usman Abubakar, seeking the approval of the House to screen and confirm the nominees.

Speaking during the plenary, Hussaini said the nominees had satisfied the requirements for appointment as commissioners and members of the State Executive Council.

He said the House was impressed by their professional expertise and experience, noting that several of them had previously served as commissioners, while others had held prominent public positions, including chairman of the Kano State Independent Electoral Commission (KANSIEC).

Hussaini added that the outcome of the screening and confirmation would be communicated to the executive for the allocation of portfolios to the newly appointed commissioners.

Speaking after the exercise, one of the nominees, retired Air Commodore Salisu Yusha’u, pledged to work closely with security agencies and local communities to strengthen security and promote peace at the grassroots.

Yusha’u, who described himself as a security expert, said collaboration with relevant stakeholders would be essential to addressing security challenges and ensuring lasting peace across the state.

Another nominee, Professor Sani Lawan Malumfashi, a former chairman of KANSIEC, stressed the importance of science and technology education, innovation and entrepreneurship in empowering citizens.

He said promoting these sectors would equip residents with practical skills, encourage self-reliance and contribute to the state’s socioeconomic development.

Similarly, Aminu Ibrahim Tsanyawa, a former commissioner for health and environment, pledged to work towards tackling drug abuse in Kano State.

Other nominees who spoke after the screening included Mukhtari Ishaq, Ibrahim Namadi and Idris Garba.
They all expressed their commitment to contributing to the development of Kano State and improving the living standards of its residents.
