Kano delegation meets SGF, seeks release of ₦5bn relief fund for singer market fire victims

A delegation of Kano business leaders and senior government officials has met with the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume, to seek the immediate release of the ₦5 billion relief fund approved by the Federal Government for victims of the Singer Market fire disaster.
The delegation said the intervention was urgently needed to support thousands of traders whose businesses and means of livelihood were destroyed by the inferno.
According to a statement issued on Thursday by the Director General, Media and Publicity, Government House, Kano, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, the delegation reminded the Federal Government of its earlier commitment to provide financial assistance to the affected traders.
The statement noted that the prompt release of the intervention fund would provide much-needed relief to victims and help accelerate the restoration of commercial activities at the market.
During the meeting, the delegation expressed appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for approving the intervention package and appealed for the completion of the process to ensure that beneficiaries receive the support without further delay.
Members of the delegation included the President of the Association of Kano Business Community, Alhaji Sabiu Bako; the Kano State Commissioner of Finance, Dr. Ismail Aliyu Danmaraya; APC National Ex-Officio, Hon. Muhammad Jamu Yusuf; Chairman of Singer Market, Barrister Junaidu Muhammad Zakari; and businessman, Alhaji Kabiru Adamu Gano.
Responding, Senator Akume assured the delegation that the issues raised had been noted and reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to supporting victims of the Singer Market fire disaster.
The statement said the meeting underscored ongoing efforts by Kano stakeholders to ensure the timely disbursement of the relief fund to affected traders.
