The Medipool Nigeria team has held a high-level advocacy meeting with the Kano State Drugs and Medical Consumables Supply Agency (DMCSA) as part of efforts to improve access to safe, affordable and quality medicines through stronger Drug Revolving Fund (DRF) systems.
The engagement took place in Kano ,where the Medipool delegation, led by Project Lead Kafayat Babalola, met with DMCSA officials to review the agency’s operational framework and reform measures in drug procurement and distribution.
Discussions focused on key DRF components, including procurement processes, warehousing, distribution channels, inventory management and financing sustainability, with the aim of identifying best practices and areas for technical collaboration.
Babalola said the visit was in line with Medipool’s national mandate to support transparent and efficient supply chains for essential medicines and medical consumables.
She noted that a well-managed DRF system is critical to ensuring that public health facilities maintain steady availability of quality drugs.
According to her, insights from Kano’s model will help shape Medipool’s future partnerships and system improvement initiatives across other states.
Receiving the team, DMCSA Director General, Pharm. Gali Sule, reiterated the agency’s commitment to accountability, efficiency and continuous reform in pharmaceutical supply management.
He said ongoing changes approved by Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf are aimed at cutting stock shortages, improving operational performance and widening access to essential medicines across the state.
Sule described the collaboration with Medipool as a shared step toward strengthening public health delivery through better drug financing structures and supply chain governance.
The visit also included technical sessions with DMCSA management and operational staff, as well as facility inspections to evaluate storage conditions, logistics arrangements and data management systems supporting the DRF programme.
Medipool Nigeria operates as a government-backed public-private partnership that centralises medicine procurement and aggregates demand across sectors.
Approved by the Federal Executive Council in 2025, the initiative functions as a national group purchasing organisation designed to reduce healthcare costs and expand access to quality-assured medicines.
DMCSA is responsible for the procurement, storage and distribution of medicines and consumables to public health facilities in Kano State, using the Drug Revolving Fund framework to promote sustainability in service delivery.
