Zamfara Gov’s wife flags off medical outreach, reaffirms commitment to quality healthcare

Wife of the Zamfara State Governor, Hajiya Huriyya Dauda Lawal, has launched a large-scale medical outreach in Gusau as part of activities marking the 2025 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence. The programme, held at the Emir’s Palace, provided free and essential healthcare services to residents of the host community.
The outreach offered screenings, consultations, and treatment for common ailments such as malaria, typhoid, hypertension, diabetes, and cholera. Beneficiaries also received expert referrals and complimentary medications.
Addressing participants, Hajiya Huriyya said access to quality healthcare is a fundamental right, reaffirming the commitment of the Huriyya Dauda Lawal Initiative to bridging healthcare gaps in underserved communities. She emphasized that every resident—regardless of age or gender—deserves timely medical attention.
She commended Governor Dauda Lawal for declaring a State of Emergency on Health, describing the move as a major step toward overhauling healthcare delivery in the state. She also appreciated the Association of Resident Doctors (ARD), Zamfara State Chapter, for their professionalism and support.
President of the ARD, Dr. Ibrahim Muhammad Dauran, lauded the First Lady for her consistent sponsorship of the outreach, noting that last year’s edition benefited over 1,700 people. He praised her commitment to strengthening the state’s healthcare system.
In a goodwill message, the Sarkin Katsinan Gusau, Alhaji Abdulkadir Ibrahim Bello, thanked the Governor’s wife for prioritizing vulnerable groups and extending the programme to men. He prayed for her continued success and for the progress of the state.
The medical outreach forms part of a broader community campaign promoting health, compassion, and service. Other activities include school sensitization, public awareness drives, online safety workshops, and grassroots engagements.
Hajiya Huriyya urged residents to embrace proper sanitation practices to prevent disease outbreaks. She expressed gratitude to all partners and volunteers and prayed for lasting peace and prosperity in the state.
