KSCHMA verification exercise nears midpoint with expanding coverage, strong community endorsement
Kola Oyelere, Kano
The Kano State Contributory Healthcare Management Agency (KSCHMA) has recorded significant progress in the ongoing Phase IV Basic Health Care Provision Fund (BHCPF) Enrollee Verification Exercise, which has reached its midpoint after eight days of continuous operations across 11 Local Government Areas (LGAs) in the state.
Launched on November 6, 2025, the 14-day exercise has so far covered thousands of households and verified tens of thousands of beneficiaries. The process, according to KSCHMA, demonstrates the agency’s operational efficiency, data accuracy, and commitment to inclusive healthcare delivery — all in alignment with Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf’s healthcare reform agenda.
The verification exercise aims to authenticate enrollee data, confirm physical presence, and ensure that beneficiaries are properly linked to their designated Primary Health Care (PHC) facilities. Officials explained that these steps are vital to maintaining transparency and ensuring that healthcare services under the BHCPF scheme reach the poor and vulnerable populations for whom they are intended.
According to field reports from KSCHMA, verification teams are currently active in more than 100 of the 127 targeted PHC facilities across the 11 LGAs, reflecting steady progress and expanding coverage.
The exercise has also continued to enjoy strong community support, driven by collaboration with Local Government Health Authorities, traditional leaders, and Ward Development Committees.
During the verification activity at Doka Village in Tofa Local Government Area, an elderly resident expressed gratitude to the state government and KSCHMA for their efforts to bring quality healthcare closer to rural communities.
Observers note that the exercise underscores the state’s determination to strengthen the foundations of its contributory health insurance system and improve access to affordable, quality healthcare for all residents of Kano State.
The verification exercise is scheduled to conclude next week, with KSCHMA reaffirming its commitment to sustaining a data-driven approach and deepening community engagement to enhance healthcare service delivery across the state.
