Kola Oyelere, Kano

A political group in Kano State, the Kwankwasiyya-Shekarau Unity Forum, has declared its support for Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf ahead of the 2027 general elections and announced its rebranding as the Abba Gida-Gida–Shekarau Unity Forum.

The declaration was made  during a solidarity visit by members of the forum to the Kano State Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Comrade Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya, at his office.

Speaking during the visit, the Chairman of the forum, Alhaji Ahmed Saminu (DOC), said the group was formed following the merger of APC and PDP structures in 2023 to support the party’s electoral success.

According to him, although their political leader, Malam Ibrahim Shekarau, later left the party, members of the forum remained loyal to the Kwankwasiyya movement but were not adequately recognised for their contributions.

He said the intervention of the Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs had strengthened the group’s relationship with the state government, prompting its decision to formally endorse Governor Yusuf and adopt a new identity.

Saminu said the forum believes the governor deserves a second term based on what it described as achievements in education, healthcare, security, youth and women empowerment, road construction and infrastructure development.

He added that the administration’s performance inspired members to publicly declare their loyalty and support for Governor Yusuf’s re-election bid.

Responding, Waiya commended the forum for what he described as its political maturity and commitment to the development of Kano State.

He said the group’s endorsement reflected confidence in Governor Yusuf’s leadership and his commitment to delivering democratic dividends to the people

The commissioner maintained that criticisms from political opponents would not distract the governor from implementing policies aimed at improving the welfare of residents.

He also assured the forum of the government’s readiness to work closely with it in preparation for the 2027 general elections.

In a related development, Waiya also received members of the Trusted Youth Awareness for Abubakar Kabir Abubakar Bichi, who also pledged support for Governor Yusuf’s second-term ambition.

The group’s chairman, Farouk Muhammad Dangora, commended the governor for approving the payment of entitlements to former councillors and praised the administration’s performance across several sectors.

Dangora requested Waiya to serve as the grand patron of the association and sought closer collaboration with the Ministry of Information and Internal Affairs to promote the achievements of the state government.

In his response, Waiya described Abubakar Kabir Abubakar Bichi as a committed public servant who had continued to support the governor’s development agenda across Kano State.

He assured the association of the ministry’s continued partnership, saying its doors would remain open for collaboration in support of the administration’s programmes and the APC’s preparations for the 2027 elections.
