APC denies defections in Kano’s Kumbotso, accuses Kwankwasiyya of propaganda

Kola Oyelere Kano

The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has dismissed claims that its members in Kumbotso Local Government Area of Kano State have defected to the National Democratic Congress (NDC), insisting that the party remains united and firmly rooted in the area.

APC. said party members and residents in the area remain supportive of the administration of Bola Ahmed Tinubu, citing ongoing federal infrastructure projects such as the AKK gas pipeline and the Kaduna–Kano–Maradi standard gauge railway, both of which pass through parts of Kumbotso Local Government Area.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, the APC State Publicity Secretary, Auwalu Soja, described the reported defections as false and alleged that they were orchestrated by the Kwankwasiyya movement to divert attention from what he termed its “sinking ship.”

Soja urged the Kwankwasiyya movement to concentrate on addressing what he described as its internal leadership crisis instead of engaging in “baseless propaganda

He further argued that Kano voters would not be swayed by what he called the political tactics and narrow interests of the Kwankwasiyya movement, claiming that the NDC was established to advance the interests of a few individuals.

Soja maintained that the APC retains the support of key political stakeholders and influential figures in Kumbotso, adding that the party has no knowledge of the identities of those allegedly involved in the reported defections.

According to the APC spokesperson, party members also appreciate the efforts of Abba Kabir Yusuf in attracting investment opportunities to Kumbotso, which he said are expected to stimulate economic growth and create employment opportunities for young people..”

The APC called on residents of Kano State to disregard reports circulating on social media about alleged defections in Kumbotso, reiterating that the party remains strong, united and intact in the local government area.
