GHIV Africa has begun preparations for the implementation of a UNICEF-supported Rapid Response Mechanism (RRM) project aimed at addressing critical water, sanitation, hygiene (WASH), and nutrition challenges in communities within Magumeri Local Government Area of Borno State.
As part of the pre-implementation activities, the organization visited one of the benefiting communities in Magumeri and held a stakeholder engagement meeting with community leaders to identify pressing humanitarian needs affecting residents.
The meeting created an avenue for open discussions between GHIV Africa officials, traditional leaders, and residents, who highlighted major gaps in access to clean water, sanitation facilities, and nutrition services across the affected communities.
GHIV Africa also engaged key government health stakeholders, including Yagana Mohammed and Lawan Yaumi, who reportedly confirmed the concerns raised by the communities during the discussions.
According to the organization, the consultations underscored the urgent need for coordinated and multi-sectoral interventions to improve WASH and nutrition outcomes in the area.
Following the meetings, the Bulama of Kajeri, Bulama Kaje, and the Bulama of Lawanti, Bulama Abubakar, accompanied the GHIV Africa team on an assessment tour of Lawanti and Kajeri communities.
During the visit, the community leaders showed the team damaged latrines in need of rehabilitation as well as boreholes requiring urgent repairs, providing firsthand evidence of the infrastructure challenges facing residents
GHIV Africa stated that findings from the community-led assessments and consultations with local government health authorities would guide the design and implementation of interventions under the UNICEF-RRM project to ensure they are responsive to local realities and sustainable.
The organization reaffirmed its commitment to working closely with traditional institutions, government officials, and humanitarian partners to improve access to WASH and nutrition services while restoring dignity, health, and hope to vulnerable communities in Magumeri.
