Insecurity: 4,444 Qur’an reciters pray against banditry in Kano

Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has cautioned Nigerians against politicising issues of insecurity, noting that the threat of banditry affects everyone regardless of political affiliation.
He made the remark on Saturday during a special prayer session organised to seek divine intervention against the recent encroachment of armed bandits into parts of the state.
The event, held at the Government House, brought together 4,444 Qur’an memorizers (Huffaz) who recited the Holy Qur’an and offered prayers for lasting peace.
The session also had in attendance the 16th Fulani Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, alongside top government officials, clerics, and community leaders.
Governor Yusuf said insecurity must not be given political colorations, stressing the need for unity in confronting the menace.
“Insecurity does not know politics or party affiliations. This is why everyone, regardless of their leanings, must join hands to fight the monster of banditry. We want to see everybody working together to free Kano,” he said.
The governor stated that his administration has equipped security agencies with operational tools and maintains regular communication with them to address their needs promptly.
He assured residents that the state government, in collaboration with security agencies, is working round-the-clock to protect Kano and its environs.
He described the mass prayer session as a significant spiritual effort beyond financial considerations, adding that every well-meaning person should appreciate such initiatives.
Governor Yusuf reiterated his commitment to working with traditional rulers, religious leaders, and stakeholders to restore and sustain peace in the state.
In his remarks, Emir Muhammadu Sanusi II commended the government’s approach, noting that improved infrastructure in rural areas would greatly enhance security response.
“I have seen, while in Faruruwa Community in Shanono Local Government Area, that the government is constructing road networks in rural communities. This will make it easier for security operatives to respond swiftly to distress calls,” the Emir said.
He urged the governor to sustain the infrastructural drive, particularly by ensuring that all local governments are connected through functional road networks. Such linkages, he noted, would facilitate mobility for residents and enhance security coverage.
The Emir reaffirmed the full support of the Emirate Council, pledging continued cooperation with the government to restore Kano’s reputation as a centre of peace, harmony, and commerce.
The prayer session drew Islamic scholars, Qur’an reciters, and participants from all of the state’s 44 local government areas, all united in seeking divine protection and an end to insecurity in Kano.
