Governor Yusuf appears with red cap, NNPP flag at council meeting amid defection rumours

The Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, appeared at the first State Council meeting of the year, held in Abuja, dressed in his traditional Kwankwasiyya attire and bearing the flag of his party, the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP).
The meeting was also attended by all state commissioners and the deputy governor, Comrade Aminu Abdussalam, who has been rumoured to have sided with Kwankwaso, potentially abandoning the governor amid recent decamping controversies.
Speaking during the meeting on Friday in Abuja, Governor Yusuf called for strong unity, resilience, and communal understanding among his cabinet members, insisting that such cohesion is what the ancient city requires at present.
“I urged you all to give your maximum cooperation to this government by uniting as a family to make Kano great and ensuring that we moved with understanding and respect for one another,” he said.
The governor, who was rumoured to be planning to decamp during the council meeting, may have frustrated those anticipating such a move.
He outlined several developmental programmes, including youth employment initiatives, explaining that 2026 would see the state empowering 50,000 youths.
