VC reaffirms commitment to commence CMSHT as FUT Minna commissions key medical training facilities

The Federal University of Technology, Minna (FUT Minna), has reaffirmed its commitment to the commencement of full academic activities in its newly established College of Medical Sciences and Health Technology (CMSHT) in the 2025/2026 Academic Session, following the commissioning of key medical training facilities.
The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Faruk Adamu Kuta, gave the assurance on Friday, January 9, 2026, during the official commissioning of the Gross Anatomy Laboratory and the Female Medical Students’ Hostel Block at the University’s Main Campus, Gidan Kwano.
According to a statement contained in the latest edition of The Campus News, published by the Information and Publication Unit, Vice-Chancellor’s Office, Prof. Kuta described the facilities as critical infrastructure that would strengthen the University’s capacity to deliver quality medical education.
He acknowledged the ₦100 million donation by the Executive Governor of Niger State, Rt. Hon. Mohammed Umaru Bago, towards the construction of the Female Medical Students’ Hostel, describing the gesture as pivotal to the successful completion of the project.
The Vice-Chancellor noted that the commissioned facilities would significantly enhance the University’s readiness to run the Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS), as well as other medical and allied health programmes recently approved by the National Universities Commission (NUC) and certified by the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN) and the Federal Ministry of Health.
Presenting an overview of the projects, the Director of the Physical Planning and Development Unit (PPDU), QS A’ishatu Mohammed, described the commissioning as a historic milestone, symbolising the formal handover of the completed projects from the contractor to the University and their readiness for use by medical students.
She explained that the Gross Anatomy Laboratory is fully equipped with a dissecting laboratory, embalming room, museum, two en-suite offices, a store and other conveniences.
She added that the Female Medical Students’ Hostel consists of 12 en-suite rooms with kitchenettes, providing a total of 48 bed spaces, alongside a laundry, a common room and an office for porters.
In his vote of thanks, the Dean of Students Affairs Division, Prof. Bashir O. Ganiyu, expressed appreciation to the Vice-Chancellor for prioritising student welfare through the provision of hostel accommodation.
He assured that the Students Affairs Division would ensure proper management and effective utilisation of the facility.

Dr. Fatima Halilu, commended the Vice-Chancellor for the realisation of the University’s long-standing aspiration to establish medical programmes, describing his commitment as a selfless service to humanity.
