Zamfara: Sultan pledges scholarship for 20 graduates of Ahmad Asha Quranic Institute

Sidi Ibrahim Kaulahi, Gusau

The Sultan of Sokoto, His Eminence Brigadier General Sa’ad Abubakar III (rtd), has announced full sponsorship for 20 outstanding students among the 432 graduates of the Ahmad Asha Institute of Arabic and Islamic Studies, Kaura Namoda, Zamfara State.

The Sultan made the pledge during the institute’s graduation ceremony held at the Muhammad Asha Theatre of the Federal Polytechnic, Kaura Namoda. The event was hosted by the Emir of Kaura Namoda, HRH Sanusi Ahmad Muhammad Asha.

In his address, the Sultan underscored the inseparable relationship between education and peace, describing both as “twin tools” essential for building a stable and progressive society.

“With educated citizens, everlasting peace would reign; and without peace, education cannot thrive,” he said. “It is the responsibility of well-to-do individuals, government, and traditional institutions— including myself— to support young people in accessing all forms of education for a better future.”

He commended the institute for its long-standing contributions to Islamic scholarship and moral development.

Earlier, the Emir of Kaura Namoda, HRH Sanusi Ahmad Muhammad Asha, congratulated the graduating students and reaffirmed his emirate’s commitment to supporting the institute, which has existed since 1961 under the supervision of the Sokoto Sultanate.

The Emir urged parents to prioritize both Islamic and western education for their children, noting that proper schooling would help reduce criminal tendencies among youths.

He also issued a stern warning to parents and guardians against allowing children to loiter on the streets during school hours.

“My emirate will not tolerate children roaming the streets during school hours,” he said. “They must be in school so they can become a source of pride to the state and the nation in the future.”
