Kano anti-graft agency ,the
Public Complaints and Anti-corruption Commission ( PCACC)and Master Bakers and Caterers Association of Nigeria, Kano State Chapter have reached an agreement on the price of bread as a result of reduction in the price of bag of flour.

However, this was contained on Wednesday, in a communique, signed jointly by the Chairman of the anti-corruption commission, Muhuyi Magaji Rimin-Gado and Chairman and Secretary of the bakers’ association, the parties agreed that the only thing to be done is to increase the size and quality of the bread, not its price.

Therefore, the Commission, in a communique issued at the end of its meeting with the bakers’ association on Wednesday, notes that despite the sharp decline in the price of bag of flour, price of bread remained unreviewed.

The communique, added that the bakers noted that apart from flour, there are other key ingredients that are necessary in the making bread, the price of which has not declined, hence they are left with not option than to increase the size of the essential commodity not its price.

It was a” Communique of Meeting between Executive Chairman Kano State Public Complaints and Anti-corruption Commission and Master Bakers and Caterers Association of Nigeria, Kano State Chapter Held on 19th February, 2025.

This was  sequel to the numerous complaints from the general public and the outcry on the social media alleging that, despite sharp reduction in the price of bag of flour, there is no corresponding reduction in the price of bread,
Based on this scenario, the  Executive PCACC, Barrister Muhuyi Magaji Rimin Gado, invite the Kano State executives of the Master Bakers and Caterers Association of Nigeria for a meeting with a view to finding the actual situation of things and resolving the issue in the best interests of the good people of Kano State.
“The meeting was fruitful and Commission and the Association have agreed on the following resolutions:

However,”The meeting debunked the claim in the public domain that bakers were buying a bag of flour at N90,000.

That since the intervention of the Kano State government through the Commission last year, the bakers were buying a bag of flour at N60,000.

That in recognition of the approaching of the holy month of Ramadan, some flour companies compassionately reduce the bag price of flour by N2,000. And this reduction only takes effect last week.

Therefore,” The  meeting notes that, apart from flour, there are other key ingredients that are used necessary in the making bread, the price of which has not declined.

These ingredients include sugar, oil, butter, wood etc * While the meeting appreciates and commends the flour companies for making the discount in their bag prices, but the meeting notes that the N2000 reduction on flour price, taking cognizance of other ingredients, is not enough to cause a reduction in the price of bread.

“However, the Association agreed to improve the quality of its bread by increasing its gram to reflect the reduction in the price of flour.

“The Commission will further meet with Singer Market Traders Association to ensure steady supply of flour and compliance with the price reduction made by the companies.

“The Commission and the Association appreciate the good people of Kano State for their understanding,” the communique concluded.
