Kano state government has tasked the organized private sector and professional bodies to cooperate with it towards enhancing the development of women and their inclusiveness in the scheme of affairs in the country.
Disclosing this ,the state Commissioner of Finance, Dr. Ismaíl Aliyu Danmaraya while receiving executive members of the state chapter of The Society of Women in Taxation (SWIT), in his office.
According to him”Extensive sensitization and education is needed to promote women in key sectors of development in the state, adding that professional bodies have a key role to play in that regard.
Dr. Danmaraya said the state government is open for partnership, to encourage women not only to become professionals in tax administration but also in other sectors of the economy, in view of their potentials.
“This administration under Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf is keen on girl-child education because it is a critical factor in sustainable development.
Therefore, we will want to work with associations that aim to mentor women to become more productive”, the Commissioner affirmed.
Dr. Danmaraya expressed appreciation to the state chapter of The Society of Women in Taxation, for promoting networking and mentorship for girls in taxation, assuring that the state government would look into ways to support the association to achieve its goals.
The Kano State Coordinator Society of Women in Taxation, Maryam Yahaya told the Commissioner that the association seeks to inspire girls to pursue careers in the tax sector, providing them guidance and support to develop professional competencies.

“We are excited that the state government if focusing on education of the girl-child and we want to key into government policies, to help in improving the quality of girl-child education”, she stated.
To achieve the society’s goals, Hajiya Mariya said its members have embarked on advocacy visits to public girls’ schools in Kano, and have organized students’ debates, in furtherance of efforts to create awareness on taxation.
The Society of Women in Taxation (SWIT), is a body comprising female members of the Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria (CITN) whose objectives are to identify with and assist the CITN to achieve its laudable objectives; empower women to reduce poverty as well as increase their disposable income and educate women in particular and the public in general on taxation and the necessity for paying taxes.
