Kano state Governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf , has tasked ten  beneficiary communities of the N400 million community revolving fund to judiciously utilise the funds to boost food production and be self reliance

Each community beneficiaries
received a  sum of $25,000 as Community Revolving Fund, CRF, to each of 10 Community Interest Groups,( CIGs) and farmer cooperatives, under the Kano Agro-Climatic Resilience in Semi-Arid Landscapes, ACReSAL, project.

This was just governor Yusuf however stated that” In addition to the community revolving fund, the Kano State Government has made significant efforts to combat desertification by recovering land and planting over three  million trees across the state

He made  this known, during an empowerment program organized by the Kano Agro-Climatic Resilience Landscape (ACreSAL) Project in collaboration with the World Bank in Kano

Each Community were given over N48 million ,with a dummy check presented to the beneficiary communities at the occasion

According to him, the community revolving fund aims to eradicate poverty and support interest groups in selected communities, ultimately strengthening communities for optimal growth.

Gov Yusuf stated that by providing access to capital, the fund enables communities to invest in agricultural projects, improve food security, and increase economic opportunities.

Speaking at the fund disbursement ceremony, held at the government house in Kano, the Commissioner of Environment, Dr Dahir Muhammad Hashim said the support is aimed at increasing food security, improve livelihoods, and build resilience against environmental challenges through climate-smart agriculture.

Dr.  Hashim commended the initiative, stating that the Community Revolving Fund (CRF) is a transformational resource designed to uplift communities, enhance agricultural productivity, and strengthen the fight against climate change.

He added that the  CRF initiative has provided direct financial support to 30 registered Community Interest Groups (CIGs) and farmer cooperatives to invest in climate-smart agriculture.

The selection of the 10 beneficiary communities was guided by strict criteria to ensure that the funds go to those who are ready and willing to embrace sustainable agricultural practices.

However, the creation of the Community Revolving Fund Management Committees (CRFMCs), Community Business Agents (CBAs), and Boards of Trustees (BoTs) is a strategy to ensure community ownership and long-term sustainability of this fund.

He hinted that the state government has established strong governance structures to ensure accountability, transparency, and sustainability.
