The Executive Secretary of Kano State Senior Secondary Schools Management Board Dr. kabiru Ado Zakirai has stressed the need to provide students with vocational knowledge that would equip them to be self-reliant upon completing their secondary education, thus reducing youth restiveness.
This was just as he highlighted the importance of introducing entrepreneurship education at the secondary school level.
Dr. Zakirai who made this known while speaking with press on Thursday in Kano then commended
the significant achievements recorded by the present administration under the able leadership of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, citing the restoration and stabilization of teachers’ salaries through prompt payment and timely promotions.
He stated that as part of efforts to address the shortage of classroom teachers in senior secondary schools within the state, Dr. Zakirai announced plans to seek approval from Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf to recruit 2000 to 3000 new teachers annually.

He then disclosed the establishment of committees for monitoring and evaluation, punctuality of teachers, syllabus adherence, and skills development.

Acknowledging Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf for his commitment to the advancement of education in the state, Dr. Zakirai praised the Governor for his efforts in rejuvenating the educational sector following past challenges faced over the years.

In another development, the  state commissioner of transportation  Ibrahim Diggol ,has said that the state government is developing State Transport Policy(STP) that will provide a framework for current and future transportation decision, aimed at address the present high cost transportation facing the masses

According to him”Without ease of access to places of work, education, health and other social amenities the quality of life suffers.

He also added that without easy access to markets and industries, economic growth stagnates and poverty prevails.

Alhaji Diggol then disclosed that “To achieve this objective, Kano State is organizing a 2-day stakeholder dialogue on the development of transport policy in Kano. The objective is to reposition the sector for optimum productivity.’

He hinted that the policy, among other things, will serve as a working framework for overall transportation development and create an enabling environment for private sector participation in the state’s transportation economy.

The transport policy will usher in a new dawn and renewed government efforts in the actualization of the vision and mission of transportation development.

The vision and mission for the development of transportation in the Kano State Development Master Plan is

“To provide good accessibility to socio-economic activities for all residents of Kano State within acceptable environmental standards-one that supports a modern multimodal transport system that satisfies the needs of the people of the state and also meets the standard of a world-class city.”

The rapid economic and urban growth in Kano has made the development of transport policy imperative.

The vision is difficult to be implemented without reliable and functional Transport Policy in the State.
