Kano Govt unveils out-of-school children survey, seeks stakeholders’ support

The Kano State Government has unveiled the findings of its Out-of-School Children Survey, with a call for stronger collaboration among stakeholders to reduce the number of children excluded from education across the state.
The report was disseminated on Thursday at the Kano State Ministry of Education, bringing together government officials, education partners, traditional and community leaders, development organisations, school administrators and other stakeholders.
The survey provides data on the scale and distribution of out-of-school children in the state, as well as factors contributing to their exclusion from formal education.
The findings are expected to guide evidence-based planning, policy formulation and targeted interventions to ensure that every child in Kano has access to quality and inclusive education.
Speaking at the event, the Commissioner for Education, Gwani Dr. Ali Haruna Makoda, reaffirmed the commitment of the state government to strengthening the education sector and ensuring that no child is left behind.
Makoda said the findings would serve as an important tool for identifying areas requiring urgent attention and developing sustainable strategies to enrol, retain and support out-of-school children.
He called on parents, communities, traditional institutions, religious leaders, development partners and other stakeholders to work closely with the government to address barriers preventing children from accessing education.
The commissioner also urged families to prioritise the education of their children, stressing that reducing the number of out-of-school children required collective responsibility.
The Ministry of Education reaffirmed its commitment to using reliable data and evidence to guide educational planning and interventions across the state.
The dissemination of the survey report, the ministry said, marked an important step towards strengthening collaboration among stakeholders and accelerating efforts to ensure that more children in Kano are enrolled in and retained in school.
