Kano executes 1,508 development projects worth N928bn across 44 LGAs, says Commissioner

Kola Oyelere, Kano

The Kano State Government has disclosed that it has executed more than 1,508 development projects valued at over N928 billion across the state’s 44 local government areas under the administration of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf.

The Commissioner for Public Procurement, Projects Monitoring and Evaluation, Comrade Nura Ma’aji Sumaila, made the disclosure during an international press briefing on the state’s infrastructure and development initiatives.

According to the commissioner, 799 of the projects have been completed, while 709 are at various stages of completion. He added that the figure excludes 619 constituency projects currently being implemented across the 44 local government areas through members of the Kano State House of Assembly.

Sumaila said the projects reflect the administration’s commitment to infrastructure renewal, social development and improved public service delivery, noting that interventions have been distributed across both urban and rural communities.

He explained that the projects cover key sectors, including roads, urban renewal, transportation, security, education, healthcare, water supply and other social services, with emphasis on value for money, quality execution and measurable impact on residents.

Providing a breakdown of the projects, the commissioner said urban renewal initiatives account for contracts worth about N169 billion, covering road rehabilitation, drainage construction and other metropolitan improvements.

He added that the government has also embarked on the construction of 5-kilometre roads in 38 local government areas at a contract value exceeding N118 billion as part of efforts to improve connectivity and accessibility across the state.

On security, Sumaila said the administration awarded contracts worth more than N6.863 billion for the construction of Kano State Neighbourhood Watch security divisions in 36 local government areas to strengthen community policing and public safety.

He further disclosed that rural infrastructure projects across all 44 local government areas, including education, healthcare and other social interventions, have a cumulative contract value of over N397 billion, while other ongoing projects account for an additional N255 billion.

The commissioner said the ministry remains committed to ensuring transparency in procurement, strict project monitoring and compliance with approved technical standards and specifications.

He noted that the government’s development agenda is focused on expanding urban and rural infrastructure, improving educational and water facilities, enhancing security and strengthening access to essential public services.

Sumaila reaffirmed the ministry’s commitment to ensuring value for money and quality project delivery, expressing appreciation to stakeholders for their support while assuring residents that the administration would continue to implement projects aimed at improving the welfare and living standards of the people of Kano State.
