The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, has commended Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, for what he described as the administration’s bold investment in women’s economic empowerment through the state’s Monthly Women Empowerment and Poverty Relief Programme.

The commendation was conveyed by the APC National Ex-Officio, Hon. Muhammad Jamo Yusuf, who represented the party’s national chairman during the July disbursement ceremony held at the Government House in Kano.

According to a statement issued by the Director-General, Media and Publicity, Government House, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, Hon. Jamo Yusuf described the initiative as a significant intervention that demonstrates the state government’s commitment to improving the welfare of women and reducing poverty at the grassroots.

He said the programme reflects visionary leadership and would strengthen household incomes, encourage entrepreneurship, and improve the socio-economic well-being of thousands of families across Kano State.

Speaking at the event, Governor Yusuf reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to women’s economic empowerment, describing the monthly programme as a strategic investment in Kano’s long-term economic development.

He said the monthly grant of N50,000 provided to beneficiaries was designed not merely as financial assistance but as capital to establish and expand small-scale businesses, improve family incomes, and stimulate economic activities across communities.

According to the governor, empowering women leads to stronger families, more prosperous communities, and sustainable economic growth.

Governor Yusuf disclosed that the July edition of the programme adopted a more rigorous beneficiary selection process supervised by the Office of the Director-General, Research and Documentation to ensure that only qualified beneficiaries were enrolled.

He urged beneficiaries to invest the grants in viable income-generating ventures such as Gurasa production, groundnut oil processing, Kunun Zaki preparation, and other small-scale businesses capable of providing sustainable livelihoods.

The governor explained that the programme is jointly funded by the Kano State Government and the 44 local government councils, with 5,200 women benefiting every month.

Under the arrangement, 100 women are selected from each of the state’s 36 rural local government areas, while 200 beneficiaries are drawn from each of the eight metropolitan local government areas.

Governor Yusuf reiterated his administration’s commitment to sustaining and expanding the programme as part of its broader strategy to reduce poverty, promote women’s empowerment, and drive inclusive economic development across the state.

He also expressed appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the First Lady for their continued support for women farmers in Kano State, describing the intervention as complementary to the state’s efforts to boost agricultural productivity and improve livelihoods.

Also speaking at the event, the Speaker of the Kano State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Ismail Jibril Falgore, and the Chairperson of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON) in Kano State, Hajiya Sa’adatu Yushau Salisu, commended the initiative and pledged continued support for the governor’s people-oriented programmes.

The Monthly Women Empowerment and Poverty Relief Programme is one of the Kano State Government’s flagship social investment initiatives aimed at reducing poverty, promoting grassroots entrepreneurship, and improving the standard of living of citizens across the state.
