The Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON), Professor Sheikh Abdullahi Saleh Usman, has resigned from office with effect from Monday, February 9, 2026.

In a press release announcing his decision, Usman said the resignation was based strictly on personal reasons following prayerful reflection and consultations with his family.

He stated that his decision was made “in good conscience and with profound respect for the sacred responsibilities of public service,” stressing that it was not connected to any dissatisfaction with the Commission or the Federal Government.

According to him, his formal resignation has been submitted in writing to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in line with Section 3(6) of the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (Establishment) Act, 2006.
Usman expressed gratitude to President Tinubu for the opportunity to serve, describing his appointment as a privilege.

He also acknowledged the support of Vice President Kashim Shettima, whom he credited for providing guidance and encouragement throughout his tenure.

He further thanked members of the NAHCON Board, management, and staff for their dedication and professionalism, as well as State Pilgrims Welfare Agencies, tour operators, aviation and service providers, and partners in Saudi Arabia for their collaboration in improving Nigeria’s Hajj operations.

The outgoing NAHCON boss offered prayers for the success of the Commission’s future leadership and for intending pilgrims, asking Allah to accept the efforts made during his time in office and grant future pilgrims a successful Hajj.
