APC warns Minister Atta over ‘unruly’ comments, threatens expulsion as tensions rise in Kano

The Kano State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has issued a stern warning to the Minister of State for Housing and Urban Development, Yusuf Atta, accusing him of making inflammatory comments capable of causing disunity within the party.
In a petition dated November 21, 2025, and signed by the state chairman, Abdullahi Abbas, and a copy made available to press on Saturday,the party described Atta’s recent public remarks as “unruly” and “derogatory,” warning that continued conduct of such nature could lead to his expulsion.
The letter, which was copied to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, APC National Chairman Prof. Nentawe Goshwe Yilwatda, party leader Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, and the North-West Zonal Vice Chairman, stated that Atta’s comments had the “tendency to provoke misunderstandings and disunity among members.”
The APC stressed that the minister had no public relations mandate within the party, cautioning that his public statements might be misinterpreted as official party positions. While acknowledging his right to support any aspirant, the party reminded him that as a serving minister and member of the Federal Executive Council, he is expected to promote unity rather than controversy.
The petition further alleged that Atta had developed a habit of making “uncomplimentary and derogatory pronouncements,” adding that failure to desist could attract further disciplinary action.
While reacting through his media aide, Seyi Olorunsola, also in a statement signed and made available to press on Saturday,quoted that the Minister Atta dismissed the party’s warning, insisting that his comments were well within his democratic rights and aimed at enlightening the public.
He criticized the decision to circulate the petition at a time when the nation faces serious security challenges, describing it as unnecessary and poorly timed. According to him, leaders should instead prioritize national unity and support for the President.
Atta reaffirmed his loyalty to President Tinubu and the APC, stating that his remarks were being misinterpreted by those who lacked understanding of internal party dynamics.
He also defended his endorsement of Deputy Senate President Jibrin Barau for the 2027 Kano governorship race, saying it was a personal opinion based on grassroots realities and not an official party directive.
The minister reiterated his commitment to the APC, the President, and the peace and progress of Kano State.
