The Kano press community has been thrown into mourning following the death of Hajiya Hadiza, a popular food vendor whose presence at the NUJ Press Centre became a familiar and cherished part of daily life for journalists and visitors alike.

Hajiya Hadiza reportedly passed away on Monday morning after a brief illness, bringing an end to nearly two decades of dedicated service to media practitioners and members of the public.

News of her death spread rapidly across the Press Centre and surrounding areas, leaving journalists, media workers and associates in shock and sadness.

Colleagues described her passing as a devastating loss, noting that her food stand was more than just a place where people bought meals. Over the years, it became a gathering point where reporters, editors and guests met to share conversations, exchange ideas and unwind from the pressures of their profession.

Many who knew her remembered Hajiya Hadiza for her warm personality, generosity and motherly disposition.

They said she treated customers with respect and maintained cordial relationships with people from all walks of life.

Beyond her contributions as a food vendor, she was also recognized for creating employment opportunities for young women, many of whom acquired valuable skills and earned a livelihood through her business.

Members of the NUJ Press Centre described her as an integral part of the media community, saying her contributions helped shape the social atmosphere of the centre over the years.

They offered prayers for Almighty Allah to forgive her shortcomings and grant her Aljannatul Firdaus.

As tributes continue to pour in, many believe Hajiya Hadiza’s legacy will live on through the countless lives she touched, the young women she empowered and the fond memories she created among generations of journalists who passed through the Press Centre.

Late Hajiya Hadiza, who always addressed the Nigerian Tribune reporter, Mr. Kola Oyelere, as “Oga Kola” whenever she met him, will be greatly missed for her humility, kindness, and respectful manner.

Mr. Oyelere extends his heartfelt condolences to her family and prays that they find the strength and courage to bear this irreparable loss. May her gentle soul rest in perfect peace.
