Progressive commissioners pledge loyalty to Gov. Yusuf, amid defection claims

The Kano State Government has dismissed reports suggesting cracks within Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf’s cabinet following recent political defections, insisting that commissioners overseeing key and strategic ministries remain firmly loyal to the governor.

In a press statement issued on Thursday, the Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Comrade Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya, described the reports as “mischievous, deliberate and ill-conceived,” accusing their authors of attempting to mislead the public.

Waiya said governance in Kano remains stable, stressing that the ministries that form the “engine rooms” of government are still under the governor’s control.

According to him, these ministries are central to policy formulation, implementation and service delivery, and their stability underscores the administration’s continued effectiveness.

He listed the ministries of Land and Regional Planning, Education, Health, Works, Finance and Economic Planning, Planning and Budget, Information and Internal Affairs, Justice, Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Agriculture, Water Resources, Environment and Climate Change, Transport, Power and Renewable Energy, Livestock Development, Housing Development, Rural and Community Development, as well as Procurement and Monitoring, as remaining loyal to Governor Yusuf.

“These are the true levers of government,” Waiya said. “Power is not lost when such key institutions remain intact, and governance is not disrupted by political movements.”

The information commissioner maintained that government business is proceeding without interruption, noting that policies are being formulated and implemented, projects are ongoing, and the bureaucracy and cabinet remain aligned as the highest policy-making body in the state.

He cautioned critics against equating political headlines with actual authority, arguing that governance is driven by structure, legality and control, which he said remain firmly in the governor’s grip.

Waiya added that the Yusuf administration would not be distracted or compelled to negotiate its mandate, reaffirming that the governor is “governing effectively and strategically” despite the political developments.
