The Forum of Former and Serving Members of the Kano State House of Assembly has welcomed Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf and 22 state lawmakers to the All Progressives Congress (APC), describing the development as a major boost for the state’s political and developmental prospects.
In a statement issued on behalf of the forum, its Chairman, Hon. Yusuf Babangida Sulaiman, said the decision of the governor and the lawmakers—including the Speaker of the House—to join the ruling party would reposition Kano to benefit more from the federal government.
According to him, members of the forum believe that Governor Yusuf’s defection to the APC is one of the best political developments to have happened to Kano in recent times, noting that it would strengthen ties between the state and the centre.
“With the coming of the governor and indeed his amiable members of the State Assembly to APC, Kano State will now enjoy better access to the central government, mutual respect, and increased dividends of democracy,” the statement read.
Sulaiman described Governor Yusuf as a leader known for commitment, fear of God, and transformational ideals, adding that such qualities align with the expectations of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for governors across the country.
He further disclosed that prominent party leaders, including former APC National Chairman Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, the APC State Chairman Alhaji Abdullahi Abbas, Alhaji Murtala Sule Garo, and the Chairman of the House Appropriation Committee, Hon. Abubakar Kabir Abubakar Bichi, have urged party members to embrace the governor and the lawmakers as long-standing members of the APC family.
The forum chairman called on APC supporters across Kano State to give maximum support to the Yusuf-led administration and the State House of Assembly, stressing the need to place the interest of Kano above all other considerations.
He assured that former and serving lawmakers under the forum would remain loyal to the APC-led government in the state and pledged their full support to Governor Yusuf’s administration, expressing optimism that collective effort would help move Kano forward.
“Our commitment is to support the governor and the legislature to succeed so that, together, we can make Kano greater,” the statement added.
