Nigeria Patriotic Front, MOP condemn alleged U.S. intervention in Venezuela

The Nigeria Patriotic Front Movement (NPFM) and the Movement of the People (MOP) have issued a strong statement condemning what they described as United States and Zionist interference in Venezuela, declaring their support for the sovereign right of the Venezuelan people to determine their own political destiny.

In a joint statement released, the groups called on workers and progressive movements across the world to oppose any form of military intervention in Venezuela, warning that such actions constitute a violation of international law and national sovereignty.

The statement was jointly endorsed by Seun Anikulapo Kuti, Chair of the Movement of the People and Afrobeat musician, and Comrade Abdulmajid Y. Daudu, Chair of the Nigeria Patriotic Front Movement and PRP-Vanguard. It was issued from the groups’ Lagos and Kano secretariats a copy made available to press in Kano

The movements drew historical parallels with the 1884–1885 Berlin Conference, which partitioned Africa among colonial powers, arguing that the legacy of colonial domination was defeated through independence struggles across Africa between the 1950s and 1970s. They cautioned against what they described as a renewed form of imperial aggression in the Global South.

The statement further alleged that Africans, in particular, should be alarmed by what it termed the “brigandage” of the administration of former U.S. President Donald Trump, accusing it of racism,
disregard for international norms, and selective concern for human lives. According to the groups, such attitudes pose a threat not only to Venezuela but also to African sovereignty.

The organisations expressed support for calls for an emergency meeting of the United Nations Security Council and the Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of Our America (ALBA), urging the international community to defend state sovereignty and international law.

They also demanded that Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro and his wife be allowed to return safely to their country without harm.

Domestically, the NPFM and MOP urged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to immediately discontinue what they described as a “furtive strategic cooperation agreement” between Nigeria and the United States, as well as any similar arrangements with Israel.

They warned that allowing such alliances to deepen could pose a serious threat to Nigeria’s sovereignty and security, which they described as the gravest since the Nigerian Civil War.
