Bandits strike Kano Deputy Governor’s Lga, abduct seven midnight raid

Kola Oyelere Kano

Gwarzo Local Government Area of Kano State, the hometown of the state’s Deputy Governor, was thrown into fear and panic on Sunday night following a suspected bandits’ attack that led to the abduction of seven residents.

The attack reportedly occurred at Zurin Mahauta village, within the Lakwaya general area of Gwarzo, according to reports aired by a local radio station. Armed men were said to have stormed the community under the cover of darkness, unleashing terror on unsuspecting residents before escaping with their victims.

Gwarzo, an ancient town located about 75 kilometres north of Kano city and sharing a boundary with Shanono Local Government Area, has largely remained peaceful prior to the latest security breach.

Eyewitness accounts, as reported on radio, indicated that the gunmen carried out the operation swiftly and in a daring manner, leaving the community in shock as they whisked away the abducted residents to an unknown destination.

Confirming the incident, the Village Head of Zurin Mahauta, Murtala Mai Unguwa, described the attack as shocking and disturbing.

He disclosed that security operatives responded promptly to distress calls and arrived at the scene in good time, preventing further casualties and escalation of the violence.

Mai Unguwa added that security agencies have since launched a massive manhunt for the assailants, assuring residents that efforts are ongoing to rescue the abducted victims and restore peace to the area.

As of the time of filing this report, there was no official statement from relevant security agencies regarding the incident or the fate of the abducted residents.
