Lamido gives PDP 10-day ultimatum, Demands dissolution of Ibadan convention, caretaker committee

Kola Oyelere Kano

Former Governor of Jigawa State, Alhaji Sule Lamido, has issued a 10-day ultimatum to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), urging the leadership to address lingering internal crises or risk deeper turmoil.

“I am pushing for a caretaker committee and asking Wike, Damagum, and others to forgive themselves and allow its formation,” he said.

He also called for the immediate dissolution of the party’s Ibadan Elective Convention and the setting up of a national caretaker committee to steer the PDP ahead of its next primaries.

Lamido made the call on Thursday while addressing hundreds of his supporters—comprising former local government chairmen, former commissioners, and other appointees from his administration—who paid him a solidarity visit at his Sharada office in Kano.

According to the former governor, the unending crises within the PDP have persisted largely because “aliens” have allegedly taken over the party, sidelining its founding members.

He said, “I regret that all the crises happening in the PDP today are because of me. The problem is that aliens have now captured the PDP, pushing original owners like me aside.”

Lamido explained that his decision to approach the court was not out of desperation to assume party leadership but to protect the PDP’s legacy and defend his fundamental rights, which he claimed had been violated.

He stressed that the tenure of the acting National Chairman, Umar Damagum, and the National Secretary, Samuel Anyanwu, would officially end on December 8, 2025, cautioning that leaving the party without leadership could endanger the future of aspirants, office holders, and those seeking re-election.

“I am pushing for a caretaker committee and asking Wike, Damagum, and others to forgive themselves and allow its formation,” he said.

Lamido also urged all PDP leaders to convene a joint meeting to extensively and sincerely discuss the challenges confronting the party, with a view to restoring it to its rightful position in national politics.

He appealed to his supporters to remain calm and patient until December
