Former Kano State governorship candidate, Inuwa Waya, says he will not contest for governor under the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 general elections.
Waya disclosed this in Kano while addressing journalists shortly after a strategic meeting with his core campaign team. He said his decision followed deep personal reflection and a desire to contribute to the development of Kano State from other fronts rather than seeking elective office.
According to him, opting out of the 2027 race will allow him focus on broader initiatives that promote unity, good governance, and internal reform within the APC.
“I remain fully committed to the APC. My decision not to contest is personal, but it will not stop me from supporting efforts that strengthen our party and advance the progress of our state,” he said.
Waya noted that he is open to forming alliances with credible politicians and groups within and outside the APC, stressing that collaboration and unity are vital for repositioning the party ahead of the next general elections.
Reflecting on the APC’s loss to the NNPP in the 2023 governorship election, Waya identified poor leadership, lack of a coordinated campaign strategy, and internal miscalculations as key reasons for the defeat. He urged party members to learn from past mistakes to avoid a repeat in 2027.
He also called for genuine reforms, strict internal discipline, and deliberate strategic planning to restore public confidence in the party.
Waya stated that his focus moving forward will be on supporting initiatives aimed at rebuilding the APC and fostering unity among its stakeholders.
In a conciliatory tone, he commended Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, for what he described as notable achievements in infrastructural and social development. He urged the governor to sustain the momentum, emphasizing that the progress of Kano should take precedence over partisan politics.
“Development should always come first. I commend the governor for the projects being executed and encourage him to continue for the benefit of the people,” Waya added.
