Kano State Commissioner of Education Dr. Ali Haruna Makoda has said  that the administration of Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, has spent over  N484 million, to renovated, 1, 200 schools  across the 44 local government areas of the state.
He therefore stated that  the government had also approved and engaged Councillors from the 484 Wards on schools renovation by setting aside N484 million Naira, describing the project as first of its kind in Kano.
Makoda added  that “Since the present administration of Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf came on board, it has renovated over 1,200 schools across the 44 local government areas, this is in addition to the engagement of our elected Councillors on 484 schools renovation work at the sum of N484 million naira “
Dr.Makoda made this known ,while declaring open a one day Quality Assurance Workshop organized for the ministry’s staff and other stakeholders on education held at the conference hall of Community Education Resource Committee (CERC).
Ali Haruna maintained that the government declaration of the state of emergency on education in may 2024 is a clear indication of the Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf’s determination and commitment to reposition the sector to its lost glory.
He recalled that even during the previous Executive Council meeting, the government had graciously approved the renovation of 13 boarding girls schools closed by the previous administration at the sum of 3 billion Naira.
According to the Commissioner, ” Despite the fact that Kano has more than 30,000 schools – the highest number compared to other states, the Governor is doing well to ensure that quality education is provided at all schools in the state”.
“Without a trained quality assurance staff, the issue of enrollment, provision of infrastructure and teacher recruitment may not translate in to the desired learning outcomes. he said
” So, the purpose of this engagement is to ensure that our quality assurance officers, Directors and Schools heads are equipped with skills and tools to effectively monitor, evaluate and report on teaching and learning activities ” he disclosed.
He noted that a strengthened quality assurance system would help the ministry detect challenges, identify areas for improvement and ensure accountability in the sector, adding that…” the workshop is not just a routine exercise but an intervention to drive education excellent and equity in our schools
Dr.  Makoda then described the workshop as very timely especially as the administration pursues the full implementation of the free and compulsory basic and secondary education policy in Kano.
The Director Public Enlightenment
Ministry of Education, Kano,,Balarabe Abdullahi Kiru ,who made this known in a statement signed also quoted the Commissioner ,has urged the participants to fully engaged and be committed to cascading the knowledge and skills gained to their respective zones and schools.
Earlier, the Permanent Secretary Ministry of Education Alhaji Bashir Baffa Muhammed announced that the participants were drawn from the various agencies under the state ministry of education including the chief executives and other key stakeholders.
Three papers which comprised ‘an over view of Quality Assurance’ by Professor Ahmed Ilyasu of Bayero University, Kano, ‘Evaluation Schedule and Thematic Areas’ by  Bashir Sule and ‘Report Writing’ by Ibrahim Yahaya were presented at the workshop.
