The Kano Electricity Distribution Company (KEDCO) has explained that it is attributing the current power shortage to disturbances caused at the national grid as well as and vandalism that damaged two towers along the 330kV Shiroro –Kaduna transmission lines 1 and 2, but however, they promised to resolve the problem soon.

However, this  was made known by the Chief Commercial Officer (CCO) of KEDCO, Abubakar Jimeta, assisted by the Chief Technical Officer (CTO) Kasim Bukullu at an emergency press briefing in Kano

The company however stated that
“We understand the inconvenience this has caused our esteemed customers, and I assure you that we are working diligently to resolve the issue.

KEDCO therefore emphasised that
“The unstable power supply is attributed to disturbances on the national grid and vandalism that damaged two towers along the 330kV Shiroro–Kaduna transmission lines 1 and 2. These lines are the primary sources of bulk power transmission to our area.

However”According to reports from the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN), towers T133 and T136, along with their cables, were found badly damaged at several points. Efforts are ongoing to reclose the lines after tripping.

KEDCO hinted that in order “To mitigate this challenge, we are engaging with necessary stakeholders, including TCN and NERC, to find a lasting solution to facilitate swift rectification of the vandalized Shiroro–Kaduna transmission lines for improved electricity supply.

“We acknowledge the efforts of our TCN counterparts in emergency restoration of the lines and normal power supply.

“At KEDCO, we remain committed to supplying adequate electricity safely and reliably for our customers’ satisfaction and sustainable business growth. Our core investor, Future Energies Africa (FEA), is investing in renewable energy efforts, improving network capacity, and MiniGrid solutions to eliminate absolute reliance on grid supply” he stated.

The company further appealed to their customers for their understanding while they are working to restore and stabilize the situation and restore power supply in the states.

However, the company then urged communities to join hands in the fight against vandalism and ensure that they report any suspicious activities on electrical infrastructure through 070055551111.

However, they therefore announced significant results in apprehending and prosecuting vandals, promising that they will continue to cooperate with security operatives to aggressively clampdown on the vandals.
