Days after Ayomide Adeleye, a 200-level Philosophy student of the Olabisi Onabanjo University (OOU), Ogun State abducted, collected ransom and murdered Christianah Idowu, a 300-level student of Federal University of Agriculture (FUNAAB), Abeokuta, soldiers from 174 Battalion tracked his location through the BVN and account details used in collecting ransom from her family.
Adeleye and Idowu, childhood friends, attended same church in Ikorodu.
She was on her way from Itaoluwo area of Ikorodu to the University of Lagos (UNILAG), Akoka, Yaba where she was observing her mandatory one-year Industrial Attachment (IT) on August 19 when she was abducted by Adeleye.
After collecting N350,000:00k, he killed her and buried her in a shallow grave in his compound.
When he was arrested on September 1, he attempted to commit suicide but was restrained by the soldiers and others around. He has confessed to killing her.
To trace Adeleye, the military got a special account he opened to receive ransoms frozen while it eventually tracked him to his residence in Ikorodu.
When she was abducted, Adeleye reached out to the family through her telephone, demanding that a ransom of N3 million be paid before she could be released.
After several appeals from family members, he agreed that N350,000:00k be paid to a certain account, which the family paid, but he refused to release her despite the payment.
It is believed he may have killed her even before the payment.
To apprehend him, the military obtained a SportyBet account he provided to Idowu’s mother; 9336380839 (Wema Bank), and froze the account after she paid N350,000 into it on August 21.
After experiencing issues accessing the account, Adeleye demanded a statement of account be sent to him via the email address:
musaahmed0288@gmail.com.
Soldiers eventually tracked Idowu’s phone to Adeleye’s residence in Ikorodu.
After minutes of torture, he confessed that he killed Idowu and buried her in a shallow grave in the house.
When he was arrested, soldiers found seven phones in Adeleye’s possession.
