THE Executive Secretary, Kano State Emergency Management Agency ( SEMA) Alhaji Isiaku Abdullahi Kubarachi,has said that the flood has claimed 31 persons lives in the 21 local government areas affected by the flood in the state
This was just as he also disclosed that this year flood disaster had equally affected a total of 280 people,while 5,280 houses were destroyed by the flood
Making this known,while speaking with the Nigerian Tribune at the state SEMA office , Alhaji Kubarachi also confirmed that a total number of 2,518 farmland destroyed running to 976 hectares of land
Alhaji Kubarachi,stated that this year rain ,which caused flood disaster was so devastated adding that a 135 people sustained various degrees of injuries as some of the houses collapsed in on them during the rainy
He listed the affected local government councils areas affected by the flood ,as Wudil,Gwale, Nassarawa,Dala,Tarauni, Dawakin-Tofa,Dambatta and among others
He however disclosed that being the fact that the state is blessed with a listening governor ,in person of governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, noting that before the commencement of raining season,a proactive measure was taken to ensure security of lives and properties
He added that the state governor directed an urgent measure to be taken, through evacuated all blockage inside the cuvert,as well.make sure that all refuse littered the state were also evacuated,hence this paved the way to flow easily during the rain
Alhaji Kubarachi,while speaking on the assistance been rendered to affected people,he said the SEMA and the NEMA had visited the affected 21 local government councils areas affected ,assessed and collated the the amount of damage done on them
As for the SEMA ,all the necessary data and all that needed by the affected people in term of assistance have been forwarded all the summaries we collated from the affected 21 local government councils areas to the state governor and we believed very soon,there would be favourable outcome
He however added that since it was not only one local government council area that was affected by the flood,the state wanted to collate all the necessary items needed by the 21 local government councils areas together and provided the assistance to them
While commenting on what the NEMA has done for them, Alhaji Kubarachi hinted that the agency after visited the affected communities,collated those items ,they promised to give their own assistance ,but as at now they were still expected their response
Alhaji Kubarachi however disclosed that those people that were affected by this disaster,were living with their neighbors saying that was reasons non of the affected people were either living inside Schools
In Kano state,” We do not have an Internaly Displaced Person(IDP) or places where those people affected by flood or others disaster were taken shelters
He then promised that as soon as governor Yusuf’,gave out the relief materials,the SEMA would distributed them to affected people
He however appealed to well to do people, organizations, both within the state and outside ,to come to the aid of the affected people and complement on what the state government would do for them
While speaking with some of the affected people,though they begged their names not to be on print ,they were not happy that the state government has not come to their aid
Accordong to them,if you mentioned our name,it may have an negative effect on what the government would do for them
However,they made a passionate appeal to the state governor Alhaji Yusuf,to assistance tender all necessary assistance ,to bail them out from their prevailing harsh situation they were facing
Some of us had lost our relatives , farmland, houses, as well properties adding that if not for the accommodation assistance rendered by our relatives,it could have been more painful and complex for us ,some of them said
But the state government has assured us that they were collating all the needed assistance to be rendered to the affected families in all the 21 local government councils areas affected by the flood together
How long and soon ,this would take,we do not known,this more reason,we are begging for a quick responses from the agency and the state and federal government,to help us do the needful on time
