Kano state governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has directed the closure of all Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) accounts, citing lack of transparency and corruption.
He gave the order on Wednesday, during an interactive session with stakeholders on Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) at the Government House, the Governor expressed frustration with the manual management of MDAs accounts, leading to multiple expenditures and corruption.
According to him, Kano State’s revenue generation is unpleasantly low, compared to other states like Kaduna, which generates 10 billion, while Kano generates only 1.6 billion.
Gov Yusuf then emphasized that relying solely on federal monthly sharing is not enough to pay salaries, fund development projects, and infrastructure, stressing the need for alternative sources of revenue.
He therefore directed all MDAs to comply with the revenue harmonization law act 2024, and warned that commissioners, permanent secretaries, and the Head of Service would be held responsible for non-compliance.
He emphasized the need for decisive action to fulfill campaign promises, including repositioning ideas for ultimate revenue generation, growth in revenue, and adoption of central billing.
Chairman of the IGR committee, Dr. Zaid Abubakar, is tasked with leading the efforts to boost revenue generation.
The Governor’s measures aim to ensure transparency, accountability, and increased revenue to fund development projects and improve the lives of Kano State citizens.
Muhiyi Magaji, Chairman Anti corruption commission, commented that corruption is a killer in all ramifications, benefiting only individuals and not the state.
He praised the Governor for giving a free hand to us and the IGR management team to sustain regulations
