Muhammad Garba Fulfils Pledge, Donates 50-Inch Television to Kano Correspondents’ Chapel

Former President of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Comrade Muhammad Garba, has fulfilled his pledge to the Kano Correspondents’ Chapel by donating a brand-new 50-inch television set to the journalists’ body.
Garba, a former Commissioner of Information in Kano State and former President of the West African Journalists Association, presented the television to the chapel’s leadership on Saturday.
The donation fulfilled a commitment he made during the recent unveiling and commissioning of the rebranded Kano Correspondents’ Chapel complex.
Speaking at the presentation, Garba said the gesture underscored his commitment to supporting initiatives that would enhance the working environment and welfare of journalists.
He expressed appreciation to the leadership and members of the chapel for the confidence they had reposed in him, assuring them of his continued support for programmes and initiatives aimed at strengthening journalism and promoting the welfare of journalists in the state.
According to him, the television was also intended to provide a more conducive environment for journalists to interact, monitor current affairs and engage in professional activities.
Receiving the television on behalf of the chapel, its Chairman, Murtala Adewale, commended Garba for fulfilling his pledge.
Adewale described the donation as a demonstration of integrity and commitment to the advancement of journalism, noting that Garba had not only made a promise at the commissioning ceremony but had also returned within a short period to honour it.
“We are grateful to Comrade Muhammad Garba for this generous gesture. What makes it particularly significant is that this was a promise he made during the unveiling and commissioning of this complex, and today he has fulfilled that promise,” Adewale said.
“This demonstrates that he is a man of his word and someone who genuinely believes in supporting journalists and the institutions that bring them together.”
The chapel chairman noted that the body had continued to receive support from individuals and organisations since efforts began to improve its facilities.
He said such gestures had encouraged the leadership to intensify its efforts to reposition the chapel and improve the working conditions of its members.
Adewale assured that the television set would be put to effective use, particularly to enable journalists to remain abreast of important national and international developments.
He also expressed appreciation to Garba for his continued support for and contributions to the journalism profession in Kano and beyond.
Members of the Kano Correspondents’ Chapel who attended the presentation also commended the former NUJ president for honouring his commitment.
The donation is expected to further enhance facilities at the rebranded chapel complex as journalists continue efforts to create a more conducive environment for professional activities, interaction and capacity development.
