Stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Bagwai and Shanono Local Government Areas of Kano State have unanimously endorsed Alhaji Farouk Lawan as their preferred candidate for the House of Representatives ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The group also backed Hon. Ali Kiyawa as their choice for the State House of Assembly.
The endorsement was announced following a stakeholders’ engagement with Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, at the Government House. Leaders, elders, youths, and women groups from the two local government areas said the decision was based on Lawan’s previous performance while serving in the National Assembly.
They noted that his tenure brought effective representation and visibility to the constituency, prompting a collective decision to support his return.
Among those present at the meeting were the Chairman of Bagwai Local Government, Engr Bello Gadanya; Chairman of Shanono Local Government, Alhaji Abubakar Barau Shanono; and several political figures, including former Commissioner Alhaji Sani Gadanya, former Bagwai Chairman Salisu Garba, former Shanono Chairman Comrade Ahmed Kadamu, and former Bagwai Chairman Alhaji Inuwa Zangina Dangada.
Other stakeholders who spoke on behalf of various groups included Alhaji Mustapha Shatan Shanono, former State Commissioner Alhaji Ali Ado, and APC leader Alhaji Haruna Abbas.
The stakeholders said their constituency had experienced years of inadequate representation, stressing that Lawan’s return would address the gap.
They described him as a figure of integrity who commanded respect both within and outside the constituency during his time in the National Assembly, despite past controversies.
The group added that elected officials, supervisory councillors, and other party members across the two local governments had also aligned with the endorsement, describing it as a move in the collective interest of the people.
While affirming their position, the stakeholders noted that they had deferred to Governor Yusuf to make the final decision, but maintained that Farouk Lawan remained their unanimous choice for the federal constituency, alongside Ali Kiyawa for the state assembly seat.
