Education key to Kano’s growth, Waiya seeks synergy with tertiary communicators

The Kano State Government has reiterated that education remains central to its development agenda, describing it as a critical driver of sustainable growth and socio-economic advancement.

The Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya, made the remarks while briefing journalists in his office.

He stressed that education plays a foundational role in nation-building and in equipping citizens with skills needed for modern economic growth.

Waiya explained that the meeting with public relations officers of tertiary institutions focused on two main objectives.

The first is to strengthen collaboration between the ministry and communication units of higher institutions to ensure coordinated and accurate dissemination of government policies and programmes.

The second objective is to brief the public on achievements recorded by the administration of Abba Kabir Yusuf in the tertiary education sector.

According to the commissioner, the present administration has made notable progress in revitalising higher education across Kano State.

These efforts include renovation and construction of academic facilities, improvement of learning environments, provision of instructional materials, and staff training and development initiatives in state-owned tertiary institutions.

He noted that the renewed focus on academic standards reflects the government’s broader commitment to repositioning these institutions to meet global educational benchmarks and respond to emerging educational demands.

Waiya also called for stronger partnerships between the ministry and the Forum of Public Relations Officers of state-owned tertiary institutions.

He emphasised that effective communication and accurate dissemination of information are essential for increasing public awareness of government programmes and achievements.

“This initiative provides a platform to engage with public relations officers and to brief communication professionals on the progress recorded under the administration in the tertiary education sector,” he said.

Urging communicators to adopt proactive and professional approaches, Waiya added that consistent and factual reporting of government interventions remains vital for keeping citizens informed and fostering public confidence in development initiatives.

The government, he concluded, remains committed to improving educational standards and strengthening the role of higher institutions as engines of innovation and development in the state.
