The Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Downstream Petroleum, Alhassan Ado Doguwa, on Saturday received hundreds of former members of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) into the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kano State.

The defectors were led by the Kano State Commissioner for Water Resources, Haruna Umar Doguwa.
Ado Doguwa disclosed this in a statement made available to journalists in Kano,

According to him,’ he and the defecting members participated in the APC membership electronic registration exercise and held a rally to launch the second-term campaign for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf.

According to the lawmaker, the new members pledged their commitment to the APC leadership at both the national and state levels.

“We all pledged to work for the overall interest of the APC under His Excellency, President Bola Tinubu, at the centre, and the leadership of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf at the sub-national level, as clearly reflected in our party’s constitution and in compliance with the tenets of constitutional democracy,” he said.

Doguwa described the development as beneficial to all party members, adding that the defectors have embraced the governor’s political project, “Kano First.”

He further explained that he led an inclusive APC membership e-registration exercise in Doguwa Local Government Area, where several prominent members of the defunct NNPP joined the ruling party.

Among those who defected, he said, were the Commissioner for Water Resources and former APC State Chairman, Alhaji Umar Haruna Doguwa; Engr. Ado Ibrahim Doguwa; and the Chairman of Doguwa Local Government, Abdul Rashid Doguwa, alongside members of the local government’s executive and legislative arms.
Doguwa added that most of the defectors were government officials serving under the leadership of Governor Yusuf.

The statement also revealed that the entire NNPP structures in Tudun Wada and Doguwa Local Government Areas have been collapsed into the APC, with Ado Doguwa leading the campaign efforts in the areas.
