KAROTA hands over seized beer trucks containing 4,920 bottles to Kano Hisbah for destruction

Kola Oyelere, Kano

The Kano State Roads Traffic Agency (KAROTA) has transferred three trucks loaded with alcoholic beverages to the Kano State Hisbah Command for destruction after intercepting them during a routine night patrol in Kano metropolis.

According to KAROTA, the trucks contained 410 cartons amounting to 4,920 bottles of beer, allegedly being transported for distribution to various locations within the city in violation of state regulations.

The handover took place on Wednesday in Kano. Speaking during the ceremony, the Managing Director of KAROTA, Hon. Faisal Mahmud Kabir—represented by the Director of Administration and General Services, Alhaji Mahmud Haido—said the operation was in line with the agency’s mandate to monitor, detect and report suspicious items being conveyed across the state.

The development was announced in a statement issued on Thursday by KAROTA’s Public Relations Officer, Abubakar Ibrahim Sharada (ANIPR).

Kabir reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to maintaining vigilance, stressing that KAROTA would continue to curb the transportation of intoxicants and other prohibited goods considered harmful to public health and societal values.

Receiving the seized trucks on behalf of the Hisbah Commander General, Sheikh Aminu Ibrahim Daurawa, the Head of the Intoxicants Unit, CSH Sani Nasidi Uba Rimo, commended KAROTA for its promptness and cooperation. He assured that the Hisbah Command would follow all due procedures before carrying out the destruction exercise.

Rimo further reiterated the Hisbah Board’s readiness to strengthen its collaboration with KAROTA in preventing the smuggling of prohibited substances into Kano State. He also offered prayers for the KAROTA personnel involved in the operation, praising their dedication to safeguarding the state.
