The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency ( NDLEA)Kano State strategic command ,has handed over ,450,000 pills of Pregabalin capsules to the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) intercepted along Hadejia road in the state capital, for further forensic and regulatory examination.

This was just as the command equally arrested three people ,and assured that the three people will be prosecuted in accordance to the rules and regulations

However, while handed over the alleged illicit drugs to the NAFDAC ,The NDLEA Kano State Strategic Command, ACGN Abubakar Ahmad, said, the consignment was intercepted by an NDLEA patrol team on Kano–Hadejia Road adding that the drugs were concealed in a van and packed in 60 cartons.

He however disclosed that ” acting on the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between NDLEA and NAFDAC signed on 24 November 2024, the Chairman/Chief Executive Officer of the NDLEA, Brig.-Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (rtd), directed the immediate transfer of the drugs to NAFDAC to enable further testing and determination of regulatory status.

He therefore stated that the “NDLEA Kano State Strategic Command Transfers 450,000 Pregabalin Capsules to NAFDAC for further investigation”

While receiving the items, the State NAFDAC coordinator Mr Kassim Idrissa Ibrahim, commended the NAFDAC, said ‘I stand here before you today with profound gratitude as we receive this seized unregistered NAFDAC capsule 300 milligram from the National Agency for National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, Colonel Command. ”

The NAFDAC coordinator Mr Kassim Idrissa Ibrahim, who represented the Director General NAFDAC, Prof Christiana Adeyeye, expressed appreciation to the NDLEA for adhering to the MOU

According to Professor Adeyeye “This handover ceremony represents more than just a transfer of evidence., symbolizes the strength of our collaborative effort in safeguarding public health. ”

The NADDC boss therefore said ” I wish to express my heartfelt appreciation to the NDLEA Colonel Command, particularly the leadership for their unwavering dedication and vigilance in intercepting these dangerous unregistered pharmaceutical products.

Professor Adeyeye then assured the NDLEA command of NAFDAC’s readiness to reciprocate and collaborate on subsequent investigative and regulatory steps.

This joint action underscores both agencies’ determination to disrupt the illicit distribution of controlled pharmaceuticals and to protect public health and safety.

Your swift action has prevented these potentially harmful substandard substances from reaching innocent citizens who might have suffered severe health consequences.

The seamless interagency collaboration between NDLEA and NAFDAC demonstrated here today is exactly what we need to combat the growing menace of drug abuse and misuse in our society.

Together we form a formidable force against those who seek to endanger public health through circulation of substandard, falsified, unregistered and potentially dangerous pharmaceutical products. She said

However, as we celebrate this success, I must emphasize that the fight is far from over adding that” The sophistication of those engaged in illegal drug activities continues to evolve, or even outside the sta

te.”
