The Kano Electricity Distribution Company(KEDCO) has  refuted a reports claiming that the company defied the Minister of Power’s directives on customer disconnections.

This was just as the company said that “We also wish to reaffirm our ongoing efforts to improve the quality and reliability of electricity supply to all our customers,”

However, the Head of the Corporate Communications Unit, Sani Sani, made the clarification in a statement signed and made available  to press in Kano
The statement reads “KEDCO’s attention has been drawn to a publication by AREWA Punch Report, suggesting that the company has defied the Minister of Power’s directives on customer disconnections,”

According to him”The company has not defied any directives from the Minister following the outage that caused a total blackout in parts of the north from 4:57 a.m. on 21st October to 4:56 pm on 30th October 2024.”

The KEDCO spokesman, emphasised that the company was not in defiance of the minister’s directive regarding billing for the outage period.

He highlighted that “The

electricity bills currently being collected are for September’s consumption, which were distributed in October. Therefore, customers who have not paid these bills are being disconnected,”
“The Honourable Minister of Power only stated that customers will not be billed for the outage period, from 21st October to 30th October. KEDCO will ensure that customers are not billed for this period, and this will be reflected in this month’s (November) bills.” he said

He urged customers to settle their bills on time for the benefit of KEDCO and the power sector as a whole.

He then assured the KEDCO’s customers of the company’s continuous commitment to complying with all regulations and orders, particularly in ensuring accurate and fair billing.
