The Kano state Commissioner of Education Alhaji Umar Haruna, has said that the state required, over N60 billion  to provide furniture to 4.5 million primary and secondary school students who are learning on a beer floor in the state.
Alhaji Haruna who disclosed this on Thursday in an interaction with pressmen, however  lamented on the decay in education sector in Kano, but blamed the situation to the immediate past Governor Abdullahi Ganduje.
He said that ” The  former Governor Ganduje destroyed a very good system he inherited from his predecessor Rabiu Kwankwaso by closing down some schools which has contributed in killing the structures.”
According to him Kano has ten thousand schools with seven million students adding that out of such number, 4.5 million students obtain lessons on bear floors.
Haruna however commended the initiatives of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf for declaring state of Emergency on Education and improving it’s budget.
He then expressed the readiness of Kano state Government to revive the sector and make Kano a citadel of leaning.
Alhaji Haruna then disclosed that  plans are on by Governor Yusuf for the implantation of the Education policy beginning with Governor’s College Kano through provisions of instructional materials and renovation of dilapidated infrastructures.
