NLC, TUC suspend strike for one week –

AS the strike declared by the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) entered second day ,in a U turn the two bodies have temporarily suspended their nationwide strike for one week, following a disagreement with the Federal Government over the proposed new national minimum wage.

However,with this development, all government and private sector offices are expected to resume normal operations immediately.

The two unions announced the
strike suspension, today, (Tuesday)is intended to facilitate uninterrupted negotiations with the tripartite committee on the new national minimum wage.

However,the two labour leaders, including representatives from both the NLC and TUC, held a productive meeting with the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume, and other senior government officials on Monday. During the meeting, it was resolved that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is committed to implementing a new minimum wage that exceeds N60,000.

Based on the  part of the resolution, the Tripartite Committee is scheduled to convene daily over the next week to finalize an agreeable national minimum wage.

The suspension of the strike was officially declared today at a meeting with the Federal Government’s Tripartite Committee, which commenced at 10 am.
